Freefalling

It’s inevitable.

We are born to the sky and fall victim to gravity, accelerating toward death—which we know nothing about. So, we grab things around us frantically trying to slow our descent and realize that they’re all falling with us at the same pace and that latching onto a fellow free faller doesn’t change or slow our fate.

When we are born flying, we squeal with joy and laugh freely, yelling, “how fun!” while enjoying the view. It’s only when we realize that there is an end that we try to fight against gravity, trying to climb against the wind, preparing for impact even when we don’t know when it will come. We close our eyes tightly and cry, “oh how sad it is that I am nearing the end. What do I do?”

There is nothing to do but open our eyes and allow ourselves the pleasure of free falling as we did when we were children and didn’t fear the end. If you are reading this, if you are creating, if you are breathing, then the end is not yet here. So fall freely, dipping your toes in the clouds with your eyes open.
